Kiwiana

We are studying culture this term. Today we looked at what things made New Zealand special and what things were unique to our awesome country. We then choose some of those things to sketch. Here are some pictures. You will also notice us working in some different places. I especially liked the kiwi ingenuity that some boys showed when setting  a spot on the back bank. Enjoy the photos :)

Cameron's flying fox writing

I felt snow dripping on my hair as the rope dragged my body towards the tree. It was speedy and getting even faster. The wind blasted though my number one hairdo. It thrilled me but it was finished too soon.

Writing stimulation

In room 3 today we used this video as a writing prompt for show not tell. The children enjoyed the clip so much that we did a creative thinking activity where they had to think of their own creative not logical way for the pig to get the cookie from the fridge. Here are our ideas:

The pig called a stork to see if he and his cloud could make a giant eagle. Then he sat on the eagle and crash landed onto the fridge only to find it was the wrong fridge! Eek (ps always be happy) Isabel

Eat lots of cookies then point your rear end at the cookies and wait for the gust. Charis

Get a bowling ball and throw it at the jar. William

Ride a paper plane on top of the fridge. Grab jar and immediately be weighed down, crash!
Sophie B

Put an extra large coke can inside the fridge then put a lot of mentos in and wait for it to explode. Murphy

You buy a giant ice cream and make it lean towards the fridge a squirrel interrupts it and knocks it then you learn that the ice cream is sugar free and that's your least favourite. Caitlin

Ring the man on the moon to send down a comet to knock the fridge over.
Charis

Put a big super fan in front of you and wait for it to float you towards the cookies. Once close, grab! Maya

Go skydiving and grab the cookies on the way down. Ella

Pig gets a ride on a Himalayan tahr to reach the cookies. Sophie D

Throw a rock at the jar. Riley

Fly a model working plane into the jar. William

Bradley would climb up like Spider-Man and give it to Cameron and Mrs Dow and Dominic and dad. Bradley

You can do anything with books-use blutak and blutak to make stairs up to the fridge. Poppy

Ride in on a giraffes head. Charis

Get a big net for the cookies. Cameron

Throw a stick up, attach some elastic to it and rock climb up. Murphy

Use a giant paper plane and get someone to throw it. Murphy

Get twenty balloons, go up in the air holding them. Then get a pro archer to shoot them so you can grab the cookies. Dominic
