Guardians of the West Harbour

We have been working with Jessica our West Harbour Artist in residence. We are sea spirits, we used our haiku poems to turn into dance. Here are some photos.

Happy PJ day! Thanks to the wonderful teachers and learners in our math session today. We had 6 sessions to choose from and could book into two. The options were: learning strategies to remember your timestables, compensation with multiplication, place value with multiplication, basic multiplication algorithms, hard multiplication algorithms and dividing large numbers. Have a chat to your children about what sessions they booked into.

Kiwiana

We are studying culture this term. Today we looked at what things made New Zealand special and what things were unique to our awesome country. We then choose some of those things to sketch. Here are some pictures. You will also notice us working in some different places. I especially liked the kiwi ingenuity that some boys showed when setting  a spot on the back bank. Maori new year is also called Maharishi-Cameron

The seven stars disappear at the end of May and reappear at the start of June-Tessa

Meaningful learning

It is always great when the children can find meaningful uses for the learning in class. Yesterday we had two examples. Ella, Tessa and Amrit wrote an informative persuasive letter to Mrs Wilson about their care bear scheme, more info to come soon and Mira used her measurement and area skills to figure out how much grass seed she needs to improve the chicken coop. Well done guys!

With 12 days to go our pieces are really beginning to take shape :) don't they look FAB! Make sure you come to our wearable arts event on September 17th at 6:30 in the hall. 

Our science fair projects are underway

Here are a few photos of some of our science fair projects. :)

Sophie, Ella and Charis are investigating which animal manure helps grass grow best. Here they are collecting their materials

Sam and Beau are making their model house items for their fire experiment while Josh makes the board. They are testing if the type of fuel effects how a room burns. 

Tane is investigating what classroom tool glides the slowest on average when attached to a plastic bag parachute. 

Maya and Elyse are figuring out what is the most popular colour.
